Abstract: 

Russian cosmism is considered in a broad cultural sense as a sense of the world, a contemplation of the world, and an understanding of the world as a single harmonious national cosmos. The philosophy of Russian cosmism, unlike the cosmic ideas of individual thinkers of past centuries, is analyzed in the light of modern challenges associated with the birth of a new “space age” predicted by N.A. Berdyaev and with the beginning of a space exploration program. The article examines the emergence of the philosophy of Russian cosmism and the formation of two of its natural science schools: space exploration (cosmonautics, K.E. Tsiolkovsky) and the intelligent organization of planetary space (V.I. Vernadsky's noosphere). The flight of thought of cosmist philosophers (K.E. Tsiolkovsky, A.L. Chizhevsky, V.I. Vernadsky, N.F. Fedorov, N.A. Berdyaev, and others) is considered as an inspiring guideline for creators and designers of practical cosmonautics, such as S.P. Korolev, N.I. Tikhomirov, B.V. Rauschenbach, and others. The philosophy of Russian cosmism is analyzed in the context of the genesis of responses to the challenges of the modern era, offering the cosmization of public life, consciousness, and education as an alternative to established solutions. It is concluded that addressing this task will require changes in the educational sphere, including greater fundamentalness of education and the formation of “cosmic pedagogy”. The article argues that the irresponsible attitude toward the natural cosmos, generated by the consumer ethos of contemporary science, should be replaced by the ethics of a person responsible for all processes taking place on the planet – the ethics of the Cosmic Anthropos.
